Edward Telles author of the new book “Pigmentocracies: ethnicity race and color in Latin America,” Telles is a Professor of Sociology at Princeton University and teaches courses in race, ethnicity with a special emphasis on Latin America and Latinos in the United States. The book is the fruit of the multiyear Project on Ethnicity and Race in Latin America (PERLA)– a richly revealing analysis of contemporary attitudes toward ethnicity and race in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru, four of Latin America’s most populous nations.
